### 七祖婆須蜜尊者凡一

> Seventh Patriarch Venerable Vasubandhu <note>Verse 1</note>

游行諸國。說法度人。有一智者。自稱佛陀難提。謂祖云。我欲與師論義。祖云。義即不論。論即不義。若擬論義。終非義論。難提即悟本心。投祖出家。

> Traveling through various kingdoms, teaching and liberating people, there was a wise man who called himself Buddhanandi. He said to the Patriarch, "I wish to debate with you, Master, about the principles." The Patriarch replied, "Principles are not something to be debated; to debate them is to lose their meaning. If you try to discuss principles, in the end, it is not a true discussion of meaning." Buddhanandi immediately awakened to his original mind and, taking refuge with the Patriarch, left the household life.

後付法眼。而說偈云。心同虗空界。示等虗空法。證得虗空時。無是無非法。

> Then, transmitting the Dharma Eye to his successor, he spoke this verse: The mind is like the vast expanse of space, Teaching the Dharma equally as boundless as space. When one realizes the nature of space itself, There is neither "this" nor "that" — no right, no wrong.
