### 大力明王經一部二卷

> The Great Mighty King Sutra, One Text in Two Volumes

大乘經藏祕密部收。佛在母質隣那山大寶樓閣中說。

> This text is from the Mahayana Canon, specifically the Secret Treasury section. The Buddha delivered this teaching while residing in the Great Jewel Pavilion on Mother's Jewel Mountain.

上卷所明，一切如來讚金剛手菩薩，意顯持此明呪能伏冤對及諸惡毒。

> The first volume explains that all Tathāgatas praise Vajrapāṇi Bodhisattva, signifying that upholding this mantra can subdue enemies and all kinds of poisons.

下卷所明，大力明王曼拏羅法。依此而修，速得成就。

> This section explains the Great Strength King of Brightness Mandala practice. By cultivating according to this method, one will swiftly attain accomplishment.

此揔意者，廣彰祕密降伏法門：由降伏故，息一切惡；以息惡故，即成增益；其增益者，增諸善法。佛既明宣法，有大力者也。

> The general meaning of this is to broadly reveal the secret method of subduing. Through subduing, all evils are pacified. By pacifying evils, one achieves increase and growth—that is, the growth of all wholesome qualities. The Buddha has clearly proclaimed this Dharma, which possesses great power.

上二部，竝中天竺梵本所出。

> The two divisions above were both derived from the Sanskrit texts of Central India.

右經，二部，五卷。內一部二卷，三藏沙門施護譯，天息災、法護證梵義，法天證梵文。一部二卷，三藏沙門法護譯，天息災證梵義，法天、施護證梵文，沙門建盛筆受，沙門常謹、清沼綴文，沙門惠溫、守巒、道真、寘顯、智遜、法雲、慧超、可瓌、慧達、善祐等證義，光祿卿湯悅、兵部員外郎張洎潤文，殿頭高品王文壽、殿直劉素監譯。

> The scripture consists of two texts in five fascicles. The first text, in two fascicles, was translated by the Tripitaka Master Shihu, with Tian Xi Zai and Fa Hu verifying the Sanskrit meaning, and Fa Tian verifying the Sanskrit text. The second text, also in two fascicles, was translated by the Tripitaka Master Fa Hu, with Tian Xi Zai verifying the Sanskrit meaning, Fa Tian and Shihu verifying the Sanskrit text, and the monk Jian Sheng recording the translation. The monks Chang Jin, Qing Zhao, Hui Wen, Shou Luan, Dao Zhen, Zhi Xian, Zhi Xun, Fa Yun, Hui Chao, Ke Gui, Hui Da, and Shan You served as proofreaders. Tang Yue, the Grand Master of the Palace with Golden Seal and Purple Ribbon, and Zhang Ji, the Vice Director of the Ministry of War, polished the wording. Wang Wenshou, the Palace Attendant of High Rank, and Liu Su, the Palace Duty Officer, supervised the translation.

是月二日，監使引三藏等，詣崇政殿，捧所譯經，具表上進。其詞曰：

> On the second day of that month, the supervising official led the Tripitaka master and others to Chongzheng Hall, where they presented the translated scriptures with a memorial. The memorial read:

臣施護等言：臣等今譯就《守護大千國土經》一部，三卷；《大力明王經》一部，二卷。竝上乘真範，奧典靈樞，宣述大明，彰示法印，由如來祕密之藏，皆世雄誠諦之言，允屬文明，式新翻譯。伏惟應運統天睿文英武大聖至明廣孝皇帝陛下，密修梵行，洞究真宗，揭慧炬以燭幽，運慈航而濟物，欽崇至教，敷演一音，󰀪警悟於羣迷，用發揮於秘義。臣等識非博達，志切覃研，㕘求華竺之言，詳究苦空之諦。今以繞樞叶慶，浹壤蒙休，仰資彌茂之皇齡，允屬難思之妙教。前件新譯經，謹繕寫上進以聞。

是日，命坐賜茶，親加撫慰，錫賜如例。詔以其經入藏頒行。

是年，詔許三藏沙門法護還天竺。法護，中天竺人也。戒行精懃，慧性明敏。太平興國中，與法天同届京闕，寓止譯筵，以助翻演。至是上表請還，太宗特從其志。是年，詔賜證義沙門慧達紫衣。
