### 圓通宗照庵主

因木庵初到泉南。舘是庵。一日。具威儀問曰。某甲愚鈍。乞師指箇見處。木庵指面前香爐曰。見麼。照曰。見。庵曰。見處如何。照曰。某甲不會。庵曰。又道見也。照悚悟。流汗浹背。自此杜門四不出。一衲百結。韻致高古。莫能親踈之。

> When Muan first arrived in Quannan, he lodged at Zhao’s temple. One day, Zhao approached him formally and asked, "I am dull and ignorant. Please, Master, point me toward the place of insight." Muan pointed to the incense burner in front of him and said, "Do you see it?" Zhao replied, "I see it." Muan asked, "What about the seeing?" Zhao said, "I don’t understand." Muan said, "Yet you said you see it." Zhao was suddenly awakened, sweat streaming down his back. From then on, he closed his door and didn’t go out. His robe was patched a hundred times, yet his manner was lofty and ancient, beyond intimacy or distance.
