### 隆興府鳳棲同安第二代志禪師嗣同安丕

> Master Zhi, Second Generation of Fengqi Tong'an in Longxing Prefecture<note>Successor of Tong'an Pi</note>

侍先同安之久。丕將順世。上堂。謂眾曰。多子塔前宗子秀。五老峰前事若何。如是三舉。師出應云。夜明簾外排班立。萬里歌謠道太平。丕曰。須是這驢漢始得。即以院付師。端然而逝。師繼席。後有僧問。凡有言句。盡落今時。學人上來。請師直指。曰。目前不現。句後不迷。云。向上事如何。曰。逈然不換。標的即乖以湖州宗派并曹洞宗旨考之。洞山价出雲居膺。膺出同安丕。丕出同安志。今傳燈等。列志在同安威下。按威之嗣。曰九峰滿。威與雲居膺皆嗣洞山。若列志在威下。誤矣。

> First, he served Tong'an Pi for a long time. When Pi was about to pass away, he gave a final teaching in the hall. He said to the assembly, "The offspring of Tathagata's children appear before the Many-Sons Pagoda. What about the situation before Five-Peak Mountain?" He said this three times. The master came forward and responded, "Standing in rows outside the curtain of the night-bright pearl, songs and ballads proclaim peace for ten thousand miles." Pi said, "It must be this donkey of a man." He then entrusted the monastery to the master and passed away peacefully. The master succeeded him as abbot. Later, a monk asked, "Every word spoken belongs to the present moment. Now that this student has come before you, please reveal it directly." The master replied, "Not appearing before the eye, not lost after the words." The monk asked, "What about the matter of the ultimate?" The master replied, "Distinct, without exchange. To set a target is to miss it."
