### 隆興府同安慧敏禪師嗣洞山延

> Chan Master Huimin of Tongan in Longxing Prefecture

初到洞山。問。諸聖以何為命。曰。不間斷。云。還有向上事也無。曰。有。云。如何是向上事。曰。不從間斷。師於言下有省。住同安日。　上堂曰。若是作家。應須如是舉。雖然恁麼。也是厨寒甑足塵。

> When he first arrived at Dongshan, he asked, "What is the lifeblood of all sages?" The master replied, "Without interruption." He then asked, "Is there anything beyond that?" The master said, "Yes." He asked, "What is that beyond?" The master replied, "That which does not arise from interruption." Hearing this, the student had a realization. Later, while residing at Tong'an, the teacher took the high seat and said, "If you are a true adept, you must conduct yourself in this manner. Yet even so, this is like a cold kitchen with dust gathering on the rice steamer's feet."
