> Self-Praise<note>3</note>

我若自贊。雲居羅漢。我若自毀。無主餓鬼。贊之不欣。毀之不嗔。毀譽不動。東魯西秦。

> If I praise myself, I'm like a worthy one on Cloud Dwelling Mountain. If I put myself down, I'm a masterless hungry ghost. Praise doesn't delight me; criticism doesn't stir up Hatred. Unmoved by blame or fame, I'm like eastern Lu or western Qin.

爾圖我真。又求我贊。我真我贊。兩重公案。家醜不外揚。己德不自談。寄之以數。六九五十三。

> You try to portray the truth of me. Then you seek praise for me. The truth of me and praise of me—these are two separate cases. Family scandals should not be aired in public. One's own virtues should not be spoken of oneself. Put it into numbers: six times nine is fifty-three.

我已是妄。爾更妄寫。妄我妄寫。兩重虗假。欲傳吾真。須泯見聞。聲色不礙。相似十分。

> I am already an illusion. You, moreover, write about illusions. Illusory I, illusory writing—two layers of falseness. If you wish to transmit my truth, you must erase seeing and hearing. Sound and form do not obstruct—then you will resemble it completely.
