無量壽佛經。彌勒菩薩白佛言。世尊於此世界。有幾不退菩薩。生無量壽佛圓(〔考〕圓。恐國)佛告彌勒。於此世界。有六十七億不退菩薩。往生彼國。一一菩薩。已曾供養。無數諸佛。次如彌勒者也。諸小行菩薩。及修習少功德者。不可稱計。皆當往生。不但我剎。諸菩薩等。往生十方世界。無量佛國。其往生者。甚多無數。我但說十方諸佛名字。晝夜一劫尚未能竟。觀無量壽佛經。佛記婁(〔考〕婁恐韋)提希夫人。及五百侍女。皆得往生極樂國土。釋迦文佛父王眷屬。七萬釋種皆生極樂國。入楞伽經云善惠當知。善逝涅槃後於末世中大名德。比丘號為龍樹能。破有無宗。顯我大乘法。初得勸(〔考〕勸恐歡)喜地。往往極樂國。自經法東傳。始於魏晉。依經起行。浸有其人。蓮社之唱。自遠公始。至天台。辨教理益顯。大破群疑。今自舊傳。博採列記。芟煩補闕斷。自遠公已下。至於近年。耳聞所接。得一百餘人。更廣𥙣求續增編次。
The Infinite Life Sutra states: The Bodhisattva Maitreya said to the Buddha, "World-Honored One, in this world, how many irreversible Bodhisattvas will be reborn in the Land of the Buddha of Infinite Life?" The Buddha told Maitreya, "In this world, there are six billion seven hundred million irreversible Bodhisattvas who will be reborn in that land. Each of these Bodhisattvas has already made offerings to countless Buddhas, and their level is next to yours, Maitreya. As for the lesser Bodhisattvas and those who have cultivated only small merits, their numbers are incalculable, and they will all be reborn there. It is not only the Bodhisattvas of my realm who will be reborn in the ten directions and in the countless Buddha lands; those who achieve rebirth are extremely numerous. If I were to merely recite the names of the Buddhas of the ten directions, I could not finish even in a day and a night spanning an entire kalpa."
The Sutra on the Visualization of the Buddha of Infinite Life records that the Buddha prophesied that Lady Vaidehi and five hundred palace maids would all be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. King Shuddhodana, the father of Shakyamuni Buddha, along with his relatives, as well as seventy thousand members of the Shakya clan, all were reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss.
The Lankavatara Sutra says: "O Good Wisdom, you should know that after the departure of the Thus-Come One, in the final age, there will be a greatly virtuous monk named Nagarjuna. He will break down the doctrines of existence and non-existence, and reveal the Great Vehicle Dharma. Initially, he attained the Stage of Joy, and ultimately he was reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss."
Since the Dharma was transmitted eastward, beginning in the Wei and Jin dynasties, people gradually began to practice according to the sutras. The tradition of the White Lotus Society started with Master Huiyuan. By the time of the Tiantai school, the Dharma teachings were further clarified, and many doubts were resolved. Now, based on the old traditions, we have broadly collected and recorded accounts, removing what is redundant and adding what is missing. Starting from Master Huiyuan and up to recent years, from what has been heard and personally witnessed, we have gathered over one hundred people. We will continue to seek out more and add them in sequence.
