勝幢臂印陀羅尼經
Victory Banner Arm-Seal Dharani Sutra

Translated by the Tripitaka Master Xuanzang, by Imperial Command.
如是我聞：
Thus I have heard:
一時薄伽梵在雞羅山頂天仙神宮，與大苾芻眾千二百五十人俱，及無量無數菩薩摩訶薩，曼殊室利、跋陀波羅十六大士而為上首，并諸天人、阿素洛等，大梵天王而為上首，無量大眾前後圍繞。
At one time, the Blessed One was residing in the Celestial Spirit Palace on the peak of Mount Jiluo. He was accompanied by a community of twelve hundred and fifty great bhikshus, as well as countless and measureless bodhisattva-mahasattvas. Among them, the sixteen great masters—such as Manjushri and Bhadrapala—were the foremost. Additionally, there were devas, human beings, asuras, and others, with the Great Brahma Heavenly King leading them. An immense assembly surrounded the Blessed One from front to back.
爾時世尊住正念智，為諸大眾說微妙法。時大梵王率諸天眾、阿素洛等頂禮佛足，合掌恭敬住如來前，俱白佛言：「世尊在昔為欲利樂諸有情故，求證無上正等菩提，悲願熏心成等正覺，有大神力具大慈悲。何故現見諸有情類墮在地獄、餓鬼、傍生，及人天中受諸劇苦，不設善巧方便濟拔？惟願哀愍令脫苦難。」時觀自在亦率無量持呪天仙，頂禮佛足，合掌恭敬住如來前，俱白佛言：「唯願哀愍諸有情故，開示善巧拔苦難法。」
At that time, the World-Honored One, remaining in mindful awareness and wisdom, taught the profound Dharma to the great assembly. Then the Great Brahma King, leading the heavenly beings, the Asuras, and others, bowed their heads at the Buddha’s feet, joined their palms with reverence, and stood before the Tathagata. Together they addressed the Buddha: “World-Honored One, in the past, out of Your wish to benefit and bring happiness to all beings, You sought supreme, perfect enlightenment. Your compassionate vows filled Your heart, and You attained perfect awakening, possessing great spiritual powers and boundless compassion. Why do we now see beings falling into the hells, hungry ghost realms, animal realms, or the realms of humans and gods, experiencing intense suffering? Why do You not employ skillful means to rescue and liberate them? We earnestly pray that You, in Your kindness, deliver them from their suffering.”
At that time, Avalokiteshvara, together with countless celestial beings who held mantras, also bowed at the Buddha’s feet, joined their palms with reverence, and stood before the Tathagata. Together they addressed the Buddha: “We earnestly pray that, out of compassion for all beings, You teach the skillful means to rescue them from suffering.”
爾時世尊告二大士及其眷屬：「汝等就座。吾今愍念一切有情，略說善巧拔苦難法。汝應諦聽，極善思惟。有大陀羅尼名勝幢臂印，若常誦念，能滅五逆十惡等罪，終不更受諸惡趣生及人天中所有極苦。恒受持者，現得財位，於當來世生尊貴家，所欲現前受諸快樂，常值諸佛，得宿命念乃至無上正等菩提。陀羅尼曰：
At that time, the World-Honored One spoke to the two great beings and their retinues: "Please take your seats. Out of compassion for all sentient beings, I will now briefly teach a skillful method for relieving suffering. Listen carefully and reflect deeply. There is a great dhāraṇī called the Victory Banner Arm Seal. If you recite it constantly, it can eradicate the five heinous crimes and the ten evil actions. You will no longer be reborn in the lower realms or experience the worst sufferings in the human or heavenly realms. Those who uphold it will gain wealth and status in the present life, be born into noble families in future lives, have their wishes fulfilled, and experience happiness. They will always encounter the Buddhas, gain the power of remembering past lives, and ultimately achieve unsurpassed complete enlightenment. The dhāraṇī is:
「羯洛羯洛 抧利抧利 矩路矩路 薩洛薩洛 徙利徙利 速路速路 薩縛佛陀婆盧抧諦 達洛達洛 薩縛達摩路迦目契折洛折洛 薩縛僧伽地瑟恥諦 跋洛跋洛頞泥迦佛 陀俱胝婆史諦 廁拏廁拏薩縛羯摩筏剌拏禰 莫摩薩縛薩埵難遮薩婆波耶尼 薩縛獨佉波捺耶 勃栗吒勃栗吒 達栗吒達栗吒 捺吒捺吒 羯吒羯吒 颯怖吒耶颯怖吒耶 薩婆筏剌拏波耶突揭底尼 莎訶」
Kalo Kalo, Kiri Kiri, Kuru Kuru, Sato Sato, Siri Siri, Suru Suru. To all Buddhas, I bow in reverence: Talo Talo. To all Dharma teachings, I open my eyes: Kelo Kelo. To all Sangha communities, I pay homage: Palo Palo. O countless Buddhas, for countless eons, free me, free me from all karmic obstacles. May all beings be freed from every fear, from all suffering and pain. Buru Buru, Taru Taru, Naru Naru, Karu Karu, Sphuraya Sphuraya. May all karmic hindrances and misdeeds be purified. Svaha.
「善男子！此勝幢臂印陀羅尼，是殑伽沙等諸佛共說。吾今愍念一切有情，因汝等請亦為眾說。善男子！諸佛出世甚為難遇，善得人身復難於是，聞此神呪更復為難。若有善男子善女人能正受持尚為難得，何況書寫、精勤誦念及勸他人令受持者。善男子！我念過去曾於藥師琉璃光、勝觀等諸佛所聞此神呪，受持讀誦、正為他說，由此證得無上菩提。是故汝等應隨勤學，勸諸有情受持讀誦，令脫苦難獲勝利樂。」
"Good man! This Victory Banner Arm-Seal Dharani has been taught by as many Buddhas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River. Out of compassion for all beings, and because you have requested it, I now teach it to you as well.
Good man! It is extremely rare for a Buddha to appear in the world; it is even rarer to receive a human body; and rarer still to hear this sacred incantation. If a good man or good woman can properly uphold and maintain it, that is already difficult—let alone copying it, diligently reciting it, and encouraging others to embrace and uphold it.
Good man! I recall that in the past, I heard this sacred incantation at the assemblies of Buddhas such as the Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light and the Supreme Seer. I upheld, recited, and correctly taught it to others. Through this, I attained unsurpassed enlightenment. Therefore, you should diligently study it, encourage all beings to accept, uphold, and recite it, and help them escape suffering and difficulty to attain victory, benefit, and joy."
時薄伽梵說此經已，曼殊室利菩薩、跋陀波羅菩薩、觀自在菩薩，大梵天王及諸天人、阿素洛等，一切大眾聞佛所說，皆大歡喜，信受奉行。
At that time, after the Bhagavan had spoken this sutra, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Bhadrapala Bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, the Great Brahma King, along with all the devas, humans, and asuras—everyone in the great assembly—heard the Buddha’s words. They were all filled with immense joy, embraced the teaching with faith, and put it into practice.
