爾時阿難尊者。坐石悟道。結集聖言。一唱我聞。三疑頓息。大事既辦。將求宗嗣。詣常水河。化為金地。集諸聖眾。顧得道弟子商那和修。付正法眼。而說偈言。

> At that time, the Venerable Ananda sat on a rock and awakened to the path. He gathered together the sacred teachings. The moment he began his recitation with "Thus have I heard," three doubts were instantly resolved. With this great mission accomplished, he sought to pass on the Dharma lineage. He went to the Eternal River, which transformed into a golden land. There, he assembled the community of awakened ones. Selecting his realized disciple, Sanakavasa, he entrusted him with the true Dharma eye and spoke this verse:

本來付有法 付了言無法各各須自悟 悟了無無法

> When the teaching was first given, there was a method. But once it is given, that method is no longer fixed. Each person must realize this for themselves. When awakened, there is no fixed teaching at all.
