爾時婆舍斯多尊者。母夢神劍。即覺有孕。既誕。遇師子尊者。顯發夙因。密傳心印。至南天竺國。摧伏外道。

> At that time, the Venerable Vasasita’s mother dreamed of a divine sword and then realized she was pregnant. After he was born, he met the Venerable Simha, who revealed his past causes and secretly transmitted the mind seal. Arriving in South India, he subdued non-Buddhist teachers.

國王太子不如蜜多投師出家。師問曰。汝欲出家。當為何事。

> The crown prince, Bùrú Mìduō, left home to become a monk. His teacher asked him, "You wish to become a monk—what is it that you hope to achieve?"

太子曰。我今出家。不為其事。

> The crown prince said, "I have left home not for these things."

師曰。不為其事。因何出家。

> The master said, "If you are not pursuing this matter, why have you become a monk?"

太子曰。我所出家。即為佛事。

> The Crown Prince said, "My renouncing the world is itself a service to the Buddha."

師曰。若為佛事。當何所作。

太子曰。無所作者。即真佛事。

師嘆曰。太子智慧天至。必諸聖降迹。即與授具。大地震動。靈異頗多。付正法眼藏。而說偈言。

聖人說知見 當境無是非我今悟真性 無道亦無理

> The wise one sees clearly: In the present moment, there is no "right" or "wrong." I have now awakened to my true nature— No path to follow, no principle to hold.
