### 洪州翠巖山可真禪師一則

> A Case of Chan Master Kezhen of Cuiyan Mountain in Hongzhou

舉。僧問巴陵。如何是道。陵云。明眼人落井。又問寶應。如何是道。應云。五鳳樓前。又問首山。如何是道。山云。脚下深三尺。

> A monk asked Baling, "What is the Path to Cessation?" Baling said, "A clear-eyed person falls into a well." He also asked Baoying, "What is the Path to Cessation?" Baoying said, "Before the Tower of Five Phoenixes." He also asked Shoushan, "What is the Path to Cessation?" Shoushan said, "Three feet deep beneath your feet."

師云。此三轉語。一句壁立千仞。一句陸地行船。一句賓主交參。

> The Master said: These three turning words—one phrase stands like a sheer cliff a thousand fathoms high; one phrase is a boat sailing on dry land; one phrase is host and guest meeting and intermingling.
