金仙問。情與無情。如何成一體去。師曰。露柱開花。燈籠發笑。仙曰。露柱開甚麼花。師曰。紅白撐空。曰燈籠笑箇甚麼。師曰。南泉道的。

> The Golden Immortal asked, "How can the sentient and the insentient become one?" The Master said, "The stone pillar blooms; the lantern smiles." The Immortal asked, "What flower does the stone pillar bloom?" The Master said, "Red and white, holding up the sky." The Immortal asked, "What does the lantern laugh at?" The Master said, "What Nanquan spoke of."
