> No. 563-A Colophon to the Combined Publication of "A Guide to the Heart Sutra" and "A Request for Instruction"

古今疏心經者，不為不多，然求其好疏不可得。　永覺大師以天縱知見，為此指掌，光前絕後，獨揭斬新日月。其子　為霖禪師著請益說一篇，探賾釣深，說破他人說不到處。余視此二注，希有如優曇華，不敢輒擅其美，刊行于世，以貽後學。若有英靈衲僧，悟空華之無蔕，知玄珠之有光，庶幾不辜他說經作注之心矣。

> Throughout the ages, there have been many commentaries on the Heart Sutra, yet few have truly excelled. Master Yongjue, with his innate wisdom, created this guide, illuminating what came before and surpassing all that followed, revealing a truth as fresh as the sun and moon. His disciple, Master Weilin, composed a supplementary discourse, delving into the profound depths and articulating what others could not. I regard these two commentaries as rare as the udumbara flower and dare not keep their beauty to myself. Thus, I publish them for future learners. May those with keen insight perceive the rootless nature of illusory flowers and recognize the hidden radiance of the profound pearl, so as not to betray the heartfelt efforts of those who expounded the sutra and composed these notes.
