> First Day of the Tenth Month: A Journey to Southern Valley with Dharma Master Shang

拕策鳴林游興濃。 要將丘󱐙醉青瞳。 黃華尚媚秋餘日。錦樹那禁霜後風。 轉岫蛇行岐屈曲。斷崖虹臥水丁東。 誰慳劇味平生事。 分付飲茶談笑中。

> Dragging my staff, I wander through the singing woods, my spirits high, Seeking to intoxicate these green hills with my gaze. Yellow flowers still charm the lingering days of autumn, But how can brocade-like trees withstand the wind after frost? The winding path twists like a snake through shifting peaks, While a broken cliff arches like a rainbow over the eastward-flowing stream. Who would begrudge the rich flavors of a lifetime's experiences? Let them be shared over tea and laughter.

一笻雙屨征具簡。 幽討勝友賓捿深。 與公半夜丘壑語。慰我平生麋鹿心。 倒榻雅成山水夢。落泉寒作絲桐音。 歸歟城寺禪膚粟。 定是流想來家林。

> A single staff, a pair of sandals—my journey's gear is simple. Seeking deep communion with noble friends in secluded retreat. With you, in the midnight hours, we speak of hills and valleys, Soothing my lifelong heart that yearns like a wild deer. Lying back, I drift into dreams of mountains and streams, While the falling spring's chill weaves a melody like silk and wood. Returning now to the temple in the city, my skin tingles with Zen's touch— Surely my thoughts have already flown back to my forest home.
