> Second Patriarch, Great Ancestor Chan Master

立雪齊腰。 求法斷臂。 有志忘諸軀。 無心契諸己。了了常知。 其知密微。 妙不借口。 的自傳衣。全功歸父底時節。 拈轉虛空絕所依。

> Standing in the snow till the waist deep, He broke his arm to seek the Dharma. With deep resolve, he forgot his own body; No longer clinging to self, he awakened to the truth. Clear and constant awareness, A knowing both subtle and profound. So wondrous, it cannot be spoken— True understanding is transmitted directly. When the work is complete and all returns to the Source, Even emptiness itself is let go, with nothing left to rely upon.
