> Reply to Scholar Dong Xunyang of Huzhou

> The mind is not inherently born; it arises when conditions come together. The mind does not fundamentally die; it disperses when conditions fall apart. It appears to have birth and death, but in truth, there is no coming or going. If you can realize this, you will live in accordance with life's flow and die peacefully, always serene and ever aware. If you have not yet grasped this, then completely let go of everything and earnestly recite the name of Amitabha Buddha, seeking rebirth in the Pure Land. If your various conditions are not yet exhausted and your lifespan is not yet over, you should recite the Buddha's name even more—it brings great benefit. As the ancients said, "The practice of reciting the Buddha's name is the path to the immortality of the Golden Immortal."
