### 答金居土廣聚

> Answering Layman Jinguang’s Questions on Extensive Accumulation

來問曰末後緊關。曰甚深之旨。曰本地相應。曰直提指斯事。緊也。深也。本也。直也。皆切問也。然只在近思而已。除此靈知烱烱外。皆緩耳。淺耳。末耳。曲耳。誠即此念佛一念所起。󳬇得破。管取大事了畢。又不可見如是說。便作思惟卜度。穿鑿求通。則反失之矣。但念念體究。真積力久。而自得之。方是證悟。

> The student asked, “What is the final, crucial gate?” The teacher replied, “The profound essential meaning.” The student then asked, “What is the fundamental, corresponding truth?” The teacher answered, “Directly pointing out this very matter.” “Crucial,” “profound,” “fundamental,” “direct”—all of these touch upon essential questions. Yet it all comes down to simply reflecting on what is near at hand. Everything apart from this radiant, clear awareness is secondary, shallow, superficial, or indirect. Indeed, in this very moment when a single thought of mindful recitation arises, if you can see through it, you can be certain that the great matter will be resolved. But do not, upon hearing this, start analyzing it mentally, guessing, or forcing comprehension through intellectual effort—that would be to lose it entirely. Simply examine each thought, genuinely accumulating power over time, and you will realize it naturally. Only then can it truly be called awakened realization.
