> Reply to Layman Wu Jili of Huizhou

不必憂罪業深。不必疑根性鈍。經云。至心念阿彌陀佛一聲。滅八十億劫生死重罪。何疑乎業深。又古聖云惟有徑路修行。但念阿彌陀佛。何憂乎根鈍。見方友。即以此告之。

> Don't worry about the heaviness of your past wrongdoings. Don't doubt that your spiritual capacity is too dull. The sutra says: Reciting Amitabha Buddha's name with a sincere heart for just one utterance can eliminate the serious sins of eighty billion eons of birth and death. So why doubt that your offenses are profound? Also, an ancient sage said: There is only one direct path to spiritual practice—just recite Amitabha Buddha. So why worry that your capacity is dull? When you see your friend Fang, tell him this immediately.
