> Reply to Layman Jiang of Yuyao

欲為生人根本。斷之誠難。有不淨觀。治其標也。反究欲念起處。治其本也。今只消究念佛者就是。

> Desire is the root of human life. Cutting it off is truly difficult. The Contemplation of Impurity treats its symptoms; Tracing the very origin of desire treats its root. Now, simply investigate: the one reciting the Buddha's name is precisely it.

持名念佛。且專一持名。但禮佛時作。觀可也。

> Chant the Buddha's name with mindfulness, and focus solely on chanting the name. However, while bowing to the Buddha, it is permissible to engage in visual contemplation.
