### 次韻答王百穀居士

> Rhyming Response to Layman Wang Baigu

六十高僧雪滿顛。泥塗老叟亦齊年。可容凡侶為禪侶。已罷塵緣結淨緣。施食每分香積飯。放生何惜鶴林錢。庭前一畝滄浪水。也學東林。種白蓮。

> This poem depicts the spiritual life of sixty eminent monks, their heads white as snow-covered peaks, living alongside an elderly man of similar age, equally weathered by time. Can ordinary beings find a place among these meditation companions? Having already relinquished worldly ties, they forge pure bonds of Dharma. They share the temple's offerings of fragrant rice, sparing no expense for releasing creatures into the wild, even if it costs "crane forest" coins. In the garden, a small pond reflects the vast ocean—just as the Lotus Society of Donglin Monastery once did, they too cultivate white lotuses, symbols of awakening.

人世真嗟事倒顛 彭碭徒自各論年繁華冷淡燈前戲 會合分離夢裏緣紫燕情多悲舊壘 青蚨恩重託飛錢知君已釋琵琶恨 錦字新題七寶蓮

> How upside-down are the affairs of this human world— The long-lived and the short-lived simply count their years by fate. All splendor and coldness are but a play before the lamp, All meetings and partings are merely ties of a dream. The purple swallows, burdened with emotion, mourn their old nests, The ghostly coins, heavy with gratitude, entrust themselves to flying currency. I know you have already released all bitterness from the lute’s lament, And now you inscribe new words of beauty on a seven-jeweled lotus.
