> Pure Land Cannot Be Said to Be Non-Existent

> Some say, "The Pure Land is just the mind itself; there is no Land of Ultimate Bliss beyond the ten trillion Buddha-lands." This teaching of "Mind-Only" originates from the scriptures and is true—not false. However, those who cite and rely on it often misunderstand its meaning. The mind and its objects are inseparable; ultimately, there is no object outside the mind. Likewise, objects and the mind are one; there is no mind outside objects. Since objects are entirely mind, why insist on grasping at mind while rejecting objects? To dismiss objects and speak only of mind is not true understanding of the mind. Others argue, "The Pure Land seen at the moment of death is merely one's own mind; therefore, there is no actual Pure Land." But consider this: Throughout history, those who have recited the Buddha's name and been reborn there have witnessed holy beings welcoming them, along with celestial music, rare fragrances, banners, towers, and palaces. Only that person saw them—which could be called "self-mind"—yet at the same time, everyone present also saw them. Some heard celestial music fading westward. Some smelled rare fragrances lingering in the room for days. The celestial music did not go elsewhere but westward. The person had already passed away, yet the fragrance remained. Can we still say there is no Pure Land? Master Yuan Zhao Ben personally saw his name listed on a lotus pedestal. Would that be someone else's mind impersonating Master Yuan Zhao's? Furthermore, ask yourself: When you approach death and see hellish scenes, are those not from your mind? Yes, from your mind. Does that person actually fall into hell? Yes, they do. Since falling into hell is real, then the reality of hell is clear. Why would the Pure Land alone be unreal? If the mind manifesting hell leads to an actual hell, wouldn't the mind manifesting the Pure Land lead to an actual Pure Land? Better to say the Pure Land exists as massive as Mount Sumeru than to say it doesn't, no matter how small. Be warned. Be warned.
