### 一蹉百蹉

> One Mistake, A Hundred Misses

古云。今生若不修。一蹉是百蹉。一之至百。何蹉之多。直至於是。經言離惡道。得人身難。得人身。逢佛法難。然而逢念佛法門。信受為尤難也。如經所言。蟻子自七佛以來。未脫蟻身。安知何日得人身。又何日逢佛法。又何日逢念佛法門而信受也。何止百蹉。葢千蹉萬蹉。而無窮也。傷哉。

> The ancients said: If you do not cultivate in this life, a single delay turns into a hundred delays. From one to a hundred—how numerous these delays become, leading to this very outcome. The sutras state: Escaping the evil realms is difficult; obtaining a human body is difficult. Once human, encountering the Buddha's teachings is difficult. Yet among these, encountering the method of mindful recitation of Buddha's name and being able to believe and accept it is the most difficult of all. As the sutras say, ants have not escaped their ant form since the time of the seven Buddhas. Who knows when they will obtain a human body? When will they encounter the Buddha's teachings? And when will they encounter the method of mindful recitation of Buddha's name and believe in it? This is not merely a hundred delays—it is a thousand, ten thousand, infinite delays. How heartbreaking!
