> Reply to Yu Deyuan

前與彼辨者。姑置勿論。更辨之。前辨是折伏狂愚。今辨是與賢智者。平氣商確。乞勿作一例視之。極知居士愛我。必欲此刻為全書耳。我今此辨。亦如居士愛我。惟諒照是幸。

> Let us set aside the previous debate for now and begin a new discussion. Earlier, my aim was to correct the arrogant and foolish. Now, however, I seek a calm and sincere dialogue with the wise. I ask you not to treat these two matters as the same. I fully understand that you, as a lay practitioner, care for me deeply, and you undoubtedly want this to serve as a complete work. But in this present discussion, I likewise speak out of care for you. I hope you will understand and forgive me.
