The Profound Meaning of the Lotus Sutra: A Concise Compilation, also known as the Record of Transmitting the Lamp, was compiled and composed by the eminent Ming Dynasty monk Master Chuandeng (1554–1628). Based on the Tiantai school, this work systematically elucidates the profound and subtle principles of the Lotus Sutra, integrating the essential themes of the scripture with practical cultivation. Its content encompasses core doctrines such as the classification of teachings, the threefold contemplation in a single mind, and the mutual inclusion of the ten realms, while emphasizing the true reality of all phenomena and the revelation of the provisional to manifest the true. As an important commentary within the Tiantai tradition, it not only deepens the philosophical interpretation of the Lotus Sutra but also influenced the development of Buddhist doctrinal studies during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is regarded as a key authoritative text for the study of Tiantai meditation and Lotus Sutra thought.
