Chapter 4: The Appearance of Thusness
爾時，東方過七百八萬阿僧祇國，有世界名一寶聚，有佛號曰無邊寶力，今現在，無量大眾恭敬圍遶而為說法。是無邊寶力佛與不虛行力菩薩摩訶薩授阿耨多羅三藐三菩提記，作如是言：「今是菩薩次於我後，當得作佛。」
At that time, eastward beyond seven hundred and eighty million countless lands, there was a world called "One Jewel Cluster." In that world was a Buddha named "Boundless Jewel Power," who was present at that very moment, surrounded by a vast assembly paying him homage as he taught the Dharma. This Buddha Boundless Jewel Power then gave a prediction of supreme enlightenment to the great being (bodhisattva-mahasattva) named "Unwavering Practice," saying: "This bodhisattva shall attain Buddhahood after me."
時不虛行力菩薩，於彼眾中見大光明聞大音聲，白彼佛言：「是為何佛光明音聲？」
The Bodhisattva Not Wasting Time and Effort, while in that assembly, saw a great radiance and heard a majestic sound. He asked that Buddha, "Whose Buddha is this light and sound?"
彼佛報言：「西方去此過七百八萬阿僧祇國，有世界名娑婆，彼中有佛號釋迦文，今現在，為大莊嚴諸菩薩，說斷眾生疑令眾歡喜菩薩藏經。」
That Buddha replied, "West from here, beyond seven hundred and eighty million *asamkhyeya* lands, there is a world called Saha. In that world, there is a Buddha named Shakyamuni, who is currently present. He is teaching the 'Sutra of the Bodhisattva Treasury that Cuts Through Sentient Beings' Doubts and Brings Them Joy' for the sake of the greatly adorned bodhisattvas."
時不虛行力菩薩白彼佛言：「我欲詣彼娑婆世界，供養、禮覲釋迦文佛，及見彼土具大莊嚴諸菩薩眾。」
The Bodhisattva Unwavering in Deeds said to that Buddha, "I wish to go to that world of Saha to make offerings and pay respects to Shakyamuni Buddha, and to see the greatly adorned assembly of Bodhisattvas in that land."
彼佛報言：「汝自知時，當以一心遊彼世界。所以者何？彼諸菩薩有大威德，難勝難及。汝以我言問訊彼佛：少惱、少病，起居輕利，氣力安耶？以此蓮華供養彼佛。」
That Buddha replied, "You yourself should know the time to go. Go and explore that world with one mind. Why is that? Those bodhisattvas have great majestic virtue, hard to overcome, hard to match. With my words, ask that Buddha: Is he free from trouble, free from illness? Are his daily activities light and pleasant? Is his energy and strength well? Offer this lotus flower to that Buddha."
時，不虛行力菩薩從坐而起，頂禮佛足右遶三匝，即與七萬八千菩薩於彼佛土，忽然不現，到此世界。令此三千大千國土樹木非時皆生華實，雨眾名華香氣普熏，上妙伎樂同時俱作。
Then the Bodhisattva Inexhaustible Strength rose from his seat, bowed at the Buddha’s feet, and circumambulated him three times to the right. Instantly, together with seventy-eight thousand bodhisattvas, he vanished from that Buddha land and appeared in this world. He caused trees throughout the entire three-thousandfold universe to bloom and bear fruit out of season. A rain of precious flowers fell, their fragrance spreading everywhere, while sublime divine music played simultaneously in harmony.
時，不虛行力菩薩行詣竹園，頭面作禮，手摩佛足，三自稱言：「我是不虛行力菩薩。」
At that time, the Bodhisattva Unfailing Strength went to the Bamboo Grove. He prostrated himself, touching his head to the Buddha's feet, and with his hands, he respectfully touched the Buddha's feet. Three times he declared, "I am the Bodhisattva Unfailing Strength."
佛言：「且止！明汝至心。」
時，不虛行力菩薩頭面禮已，而白佛言：「無邊寶力佛問訊世尊：少病、少惱，起居輕利，氣力強耶？以此蓮華供養世尊。」
At that time, the Bodhisattva Unfailing Strength prostrated himself, touching his forehead to the ground, and said to the Buddha: "The Buddha Infinite Jewel Strength sends his regards to the World-Honored One, inquiring whether you are free from illness and affliction, whether your daily life is comfortable and light, and whether your strength is strong. He offers this lotus flower as a gift to the World-Honored One."
佛受華已，而問之曰：「無邊寶力佛安隱、無恙，氣力康耶？」
答言：「世尊！無邊寶力佛少惱、少病，安隱無為。」佛以此華與彌勒菩薩。
爾時，彌勒手執蓮華，作如是言：「以此蓮華善根福德因緣力故，令善男子，若善女人發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心者，得淨佛土成就眾生。所以者何？若諸眾生不種善根難可教化，善根不具難可教化，善根微淺難可教化，樂小法者難可教化。所以者何？是眾華中若人欲見十方諸佛即皆得見，亦能得見無邊寶力佛寶聚世界諸菩薩眾，及見彼土得共解脫三明六通大聲聞眾。世尊！是華從深善根因緣報生，是故我今以供諸佛，令眾發心求佛道者得無障閡，未發心者亦令得發。如如來通達諸法，無所壞相得無上道，我以是心持華供養。」
爾時，佛告跋陀婆羅：「何謂為法，如來以如通達不壞，得無上道？」
跋陀婆羅白佛言：「世尊！無有是法，如來以如通達不壞得成佛道。所以者何？如來不得是諸法相。若佛不得，是不名法不名非法。世尊！無所得中若有法者，則為如來起此法相。所以者何？諸相所生皆因六入。如來尚自不得諸入，況無得中而得相耶！有如是觀即復為相，是故佛說一切諸法，無取無捨亦無隨順。如應行者得是相故，名為如來。所以者何？佛所欲法皆於如中，若取諸法則為壞如。如無如來，而因如故名為如來；是如無相，因無相故名為如來；是如無盡，因無盡故名為如來；是如不壞，因不壞故名為如來；諸法如實，因如實故名為如來。是故，世尊！一切法如即是如來，如來即是一切法如。是故，世尊！無所住處是如來義，於正通達亦不住故。是故佛說，若人於法無取無捨無順無諍，是名一切世間福田。」
佛告跋陀婆羅：「汝住何處，能作是說？」
答言：「世尊！一切世間諸所住處我住其中，作如是說：『世尊！我不貪著如凡夫住。』所以者何？凡夫所住，即是貪著敗壞之相。若著壞相，是人即為敗壞變異。世尊！實相不如世間所住，賢聖於此世間相中無諍無二，名住世間；凡夫於此無有行處。世間如焰，過諸入故；世間無常，從緣生故；世間不淨，起惡業故。是故世間、世間住處、世間壞相，皆悉住於無所住中。是故我住無二法中，能作是說。」
爾時，佛告跋陀婆羅：「汝住此法，作是說耶？」
答言：「世尊！佛所得法，自捨如來無能知者。」
「跋陀婆羅！吾得何法？」
「唯然，世尊！佛坐道場所得之法，若法非法無有是處。」
佛告跋陀婆羅：「善哉，善哉！如汝所說。如來道場所得法者，是法非法亦非非法，我於此法智不能行、目不能見無有行處，慧所不通明不能了，問無有答，於此法中無受無取無垢無淨。若我說是自所得法，若以相行行是法者，則皆迷悶。跋陀婆羅！我於是法唯除諸佛無證明者，現身菩薩一生菩薩於我是法亦不能證，聞如是法尚懷驚怖，況斯已下能證明者！」
