Admonitions for the Sangha

The Nirvana Sutra says: "All beings who possess a mind will eventually attain Supreme Perfect Enlightenment. Why? Because all living beings inherently possess the Buddha-nature. This nature is empty, yet penetrating; luminous, yet always still. If you call it 'existent,' it has no form or name. If you call it 'non-existent,' sages find it spiritually present. Since beginningless time, beings have been unaware and have lost their way, deluded by their own confusion. Afflictions have obscured and concealed this fundamental brightness. It generates all conditions, leading beings wrongly into the six realms of rebirth. Thus, the Greatly Enlightened One, feeling compassion for beings lost in blindness, established the threefold training of precepts, concentration, and wisdom. This path is vast and illustrious, showing how to start from truth and yet give rise to delusion. It guides all kinds of beings, teaching them to cease delusion and return to truth. If you can faithfully accept the Buddha's words and follow a teacher's instruction, this path becomes a swift boat to cross the ocean of suffering, a ladder to ascend the path of sages. Who can go out without passing through the door? Who can avoid traveling this way?"
