> The four types of reverent salutation are explained in the \*Twenty Verses on Consciousness Only\* by Master瞿波: To demonstrate that the Great Teacher possesses the divine eye, one performs salutation with the body; to demonstrate that He possesses the divine ear, one performs salutation with speech; to demonstrate that He possesses knowledge of others' minds, one performs salutation with the mind. As stated in the monastic code: If you are in a well-lit place, you salute with physical action because you can be seen. If you are in the dark but near, you salute with verbal action because you can be heard. If you are both far away and in darkness, you salute with mental action because you cannot be seen or heard. Furthermore, it is taught that reverence manifests through the three modes of action as causes. Physical salutation is the cause of the miracle of transformation; verbal salutation is the cause of the miracle of prediction; mental salutation is the cause of the miracle of instruction. These also correspond respectively to the causes for the supernormal powers of divine travel, knowledge of others' minds, and the extinction of defilements. It also shows that the three actions are fulfilled and completely wholesome. Wholesome actions of body, speech, and mind encompass all types of karma. Moreover, it is necessary to rely on strength and the power of great authority. If one’s reverence is incomplete, one cannot fully access this authority's transformative power.
