> Preparing for Practice

經營備辨。凡賦形於世者。雖一己皆有所不免。故叢林有坐一走七之說。其充飢餒固不擇其麁糲。庇風雨安敢較其陋卑。一日必葺。任在當人。百味具陳。福皈自己。庶幾經大傳遠之計可儀可則。乃見持危扶顛之力有始有終。功不浪施。道存目擊者矣。

> Providing for daily needs, every living being in this world inevitably has certain requirements. Thus, in monastic communities, there is the saying "sit for one, walk for seven"—implying that while one may sit briefly, one must also walk extensively. When satisfying hunger, one naturally does not choose between coarse and fine food. When sheltering from wind and rain, how dare one compare humble dwellings with grand ones? Each day, one must repair and maintain, and the responsibility lies with the individual. With all delicacies laid out, blessings return to oneself. Thus, one may plan for lasting heritage and set a proper example. Then one reveals the strength to uphold what is precarious and support what is toppling, persevering from beginning to end. Efforts are never wasted, and the Way is perceived through direct encounter.
