### 智覺禪師讚

> Master Zhi Jue's Praise

奉化福慧庵主僧仁寧。持所奉智覺像以相示。余獲瞻禮。不覺涕淚俱下。恨不得與師同時。而求侍巾拂。聽其提持大綱。闡揚奧旨。盡我微細法執。謹再拜稽首。為之讚曰。

> I, Renning, the presiding monk of Fuhui Nunnery in Fenghua, presented the revered portrait of the Great Master Zhi Jue for my veneration. Upon beholding it, tears streamed down unbidden, and I lamented that I was not born in his time to serve at his side, attending to his needs and receiving his guidance. I longed to hear him expound the essential teachings and reveal their profound mysteries, to dissolve even the subtlest attachments to views. With deep reverence, I bow twice and offer this praise:

心無生滅。惟證乃知。高揭宗鏡。光現影隨。百尺竿頭。放身自在。大用熾然。逈絕對待。方便百八。日日安行。憫彼後學。勤穫怠耕。研其說法。如禹治水。猗甘露滅。詞無虗美。

> The mind neither arises nor ceases; only through direct realization is it known. Raising high the mirror of the teaching, light appears and shadows follow. At the summit of the hundred-foot pole, let go and be free. Great function blazes forth, utterly beyond all duality. With one hundred and eight skillful means, practice daily with ease. Moved by compassion for later students, who toil in harvest yet grow lax in ploughing. Examine his exposition of the Dharma, like Yu taming the floods. Such is the nectar of cessation, its words without hollow praise.
