### 數珠印第二十八

> Chapter 28: Counting Rosary Mudra

「右手取珠置於掌中，二手合掌大虛掌內。捧珠明曰：

> Take the seed pearl in your right hand and place it on the left palm, then join your palms together in a prayer gesture holding the pearl within. Raising the pearl, chant:

「唵一縛蘇上皤底二室哩二合曳三鉢特二合莽忙𭌆四莎縛二合訶引五」

> Om Vasu-pati Sriye Padma-māli Svāhā

「此明又明珠一千八十遍，清淨受持。每取珠時，三遍明珠。二手當心相去六寸，或當鼻前，二手五指各攢捻念珠，捻一一珠與明同了，斷諸緣慮一心凝目，想念聖觀自在陀羅尼字，圓光身心光明如日不令錯亂。隨所力念乃至千萬，身極疲頓誦念方息。開目瞻覩聖觀自在，合掌頂禮，種種讚歎聖觀自在。出道場時復獻香水。作是思惟：『我當以何方便，令諸有情永免生死證入菩提？』若成就藥者，瞻想聖觀自在，一心係藥捷捷誦明，候太陰太陽盈復。如本藥現煖、煙、增、光，藥即成就。」

> This practice involves reciting the mantra "ming" one thousand eighty times while reverently holding a clear crystal rosary. Each time you pick up a bead, recite "ming" three times. Position both hands at the center of your chest, six inches apart, or before your nose. With the five fingers of each hand, pick up and roll each bead, reciting "ming" along with each bead. Cut off all scattered thoughts, focus your mind, and fix your gaze. Visualize the syllable of the holy Guanyin's mantra—a circular halo of light, your body and mind radiating brightness like the sun—without allowing any confusion. Recite as many times as your strength allows, up to ten million if possible, and rest only when your body is utterly exhausted. Open your eyes and gaze upon the holy Guanyin, then press your palms together and bow. Offer various praises to the holy Guanyin. Upon leaving the practice space, offer scented water again. Contemplate: "What skillful means can I use to enable all beings to escape birth and death forever and realize enlightenment?" If you are working to empower a medicine, focus your mind on the holy Guanyin and steadfastly recite the mantra while concentrating on the medicine. Wait until the moon and sun wax and wane in their cycles. When the medicine itself shows signs of warmth, smoke, growth, or light, it is empowered.
