### 第十五釋道如為救三途眾生造阿彌陀像感應出并州記

> Chapter 15: Dao Ru, Responding to Save Beings in the Three Evil Realms by Making an Amitabha Image - From the Record

釋道如是并州晉陽人也。乃是道綽禪師懸孫弟子。心含慈仁。悲四生苦。雖修淨業。先欲度他。發願為救三途眾生受苦。造阿彌陀丈六金像。貧道之力三年方成。精勤供養。在於像前夢。一人冥官。將金紙牒書曰。此是閻魔法王。隨喜師願牒書也。如即開見云。阿師為救三途受苦眾生。造阿彌陀像。入地獄教化眾生。宛如生佛。放光說法。利益不思議。地獄眾生業微輕者。皆離苦得樂。夢覺彌專其志。齋日像胸放光。但十人五六得見。或人夢。道如現金色身。入地獄中說法。或為餓鬼說法。以如此感應蓋多。定知所願不虛矣。

> Shi Daoru was from Jinyang, Bingzhou, and was a distant disciple of the meditation master Daochuo. His heart was filled with compassion, and he grieved over the suffering of all beings in the four realms of rebirth. Although he cultivated the practice of rebirth in the Pure Land, he first sought to liberate others. He made a vow to rescue beings suffering in the three lower realms and created a sixteen-foot-tall golden image of Amitabha. It took him three years to complete this work with his own effort. He diligently made offerings to it. One night, he dreamed that an official from the underworld brought a document written on golden paper, saying: "This is a decree from King Yama, celebrating your vow." Daoru opened it and saw: "To save beings suffering in the three lower realms, this master has created an image of Amitabha and enters the hells to teach them. He is like a living Buddha, radiating light and expounding the Dharma, bringing inconceivable benefits. Those hell beings with lighter karma all escape suffering and attain happiness." When he woke from the dream, his resolve only deepened. On fasting days, light would shine from the image's chest, though only about half of the people who saw it could perceive it. Some dreamed of Daoru appearing in a golden body, teaching in the hells, or preaching to hungry ghosts. There were many such miraculous signs. Thus, it was certain that his vow was not in vain.
