第二釋名者，今妙法蓮華經者，本地甚深之奧藏也，自行權實之妙法也。四華六動開方便之門，三變千涌表真實之地，咸令一切普得見聞，是以先標妙法，次喻蓮華。蕩化城之執教，廢草菴之滯情，會眾善之小行，歸廣大之一乘，上中下根皆與記莂。發秘密之奧藏稱之為妙，示權實之正軌故號為法，指久遠之本果喻之以蓮，會不二之圓道譬之以華，聲為佛事稱之為經，圓詮之初目之為序，序義相從稱之為品，眾次之首名第一。若存梵聲，可言薩達摩、分陀利伽、蘇怛攬，今順唐語，故道妙法蓮華經序品第一。
Second, explaining the title: This "Lotus Sutra of the Wondrous Dharma" contains the profound and hidden store of the Buddha's original ground, and the wondrous teaching of both provisional and real practices for his own cultivation. Through the four flowers and six signs, the door of skillful means is opened; through the three transformations and a thousand manifestations, the land of ultimate reality is revealed, enabling all beings to see and hear universally. Thus, first we establish the "Wondrous Dharma," then we compare it to the "Lotus Flower." It dissolves attachment to the teaching of the conjured city, abandons clinging to the grass hut's limited perspective, unites all traces of goodness and small practices, and returns them to the vast, one Great Vehicle—granting predictions of enlightenment to all beings of superior, average, and inferior capacities. To reveal the hidden and profound store is called "Wondrous"; to demonstrate the proper path of provisional and real is named "Dharma." It refers to the Buddha's long-distant, ultimate realization, comparing it to a "Lotus"; it unifies the non-dual, perfect path, comparing it to a "Flower." Using sound to perform the Buddha's work is called "Sutra"; the beginning of this complete teaching is regarded as the "Preface"; the sequential meaning of the preface is called "Chapter"; the first among the many chapters is named "Number One." If we retained the Sanskrit sounds, it could be spoken as "Saddharma, Puṇḍarīka, Sūtra"; but now, following the Chinese language, we say "Wondrous Dharma Lotus Flower Sutra, Preface Chapter, First."
