第一、述大意者。夫他方大士，□□□□□說；此間釋尊，開所化而止請。於是淨行眷屬，裂大地而泉涌；慈氏等眾，表深疑而雲起。四行菩薩，問訊世尊而隨喜；一乘法王，開示佛慧而同醎。補處彌勒，不知一人而發疑；地前賢哲，用何智術而測位？是以逸多大士，問涌出於誰化？久成實佛，顯諸力於自度。爾時歲促化長，迷忽然發心裏；父少子老，喻倉卒吐口表。非久遠智者，誰人決此疑哉？非本佛妙智，誰者示斯旨哉？大中亦大，一中亦一，蓋斯□□□歟！

> First, an overview of the meaning: In other realms, great beings preach freely; here in this world, the Honored One stops his teaching to address the situation. As a result, the pure retinue of disciples bursts forth from the earth like a spring, while Maitreya and the assembly raise profound doubts like rising clouds. The four kinds of bodhisattvas inquire about the World-Honored One’s well-being and rejoice. The King of the Dharma, teaching the One Vehicle, reveals the wisdom of the Buddha, which all equally taste. Yet Maitreya, the future Buddha, does not recognize a single person and thus gives rise to doubt. How can the sage-like figures below the ground level of enlightenment use any wisdom or skill to fathom the Buddha’s station? Thus, the noble Maitreya asks: Who taught these beings emerging from the earth? The Long-Perfected Real Buddha manifests all his powers through his own liberation. At that time, though the time was short, the transformation was vast, and confusion arose deep in the mind. The story of a young father with an old son is a hasty illustration spoken with difficulty. Who but one of long-standing, profound wisdom can resolve this doubt? Who but the wondrous wisdom of the Original Buddha can reveal this truth? Within the Great is even greater; within the One is even more one—such is the meaning of this text!
