The "Continued Summary of the Five Lamps" was compiled by the eminent Ming dynasty monk Master Jingzhu. It serves as an important continuation of the Buddhist Chan historical text "The Five Lamps Merged." Compiled during the late Ming and early Qing periods, the work aimed to supplement the recorded dialogues and transmission lineages of various Chan schools from the Song dynasty onward. Its contents cover the conduct and teachings of patriarchs from lineages such as Linji and Caodong. As a pivotal document bridging the lamp histories of Chan, it systematically preserves historical materials from the Song to Ming dynasties. It holds significant value for studying the evolution of Chan methods and the essential principles of the school, regarded as one of the indispensable authoritative works in Chan historical transmission.
