> Seeing Off a Monk Returning to Mount Tiantai to Visit His Teacher

休居說偈無平仄。七穿八穴成狼藉。閃電機先搆却難。從空放下如絃直。況是佛法無定期。縱橫妙用誰能知。青天自可覆白日。井底不得蓬塵飛。道人生天台。風骨頗靈異。觸熱來扣門。要覔贈行句。將歸阿師傍。一一從頭舉。南山雲起北山雨。東行不見西行利。

> Master Xiuju spoke a verse without strict meter: Pierced in seven places, dug through in eight — what a mess! The lightning-quick moment is hardest to grasp; Falling from emptiness, it's as straight as a bowstring. And the Dharma has no fixed schedule — Who can grasp its subtle, free functions? The blue sky naturally covers the sun at noon; At the bottom of a well, no dust flies. The practitioner was born on Mount Tiantai, With an aura both spiritual and strange. In the heat, he knocked at my door, Seeking a verse for his journey home. Now he returns to stand by his master, Recounting everything one by one: Clouds rise over South Mountain while rain falls on North Mountain; Going east, you won't see the benefit of going west.
