### 次雲外和尚韻。送萬首座

> Song to Yunwai for Venerable Wan Zuo

從來一滴曹溪水。匝匝之波平地起。道人曾具截流機。力挽天河有如此。香爐峯頂擲金鈎。宿鷺亭前獲頳鯉。天宮說法夜夢閑。四句百非空妙理。當頭一諱不可觸。肋下三拳終莫比。藏身北斗五位分。瞬目白雲千萬里。朝來訪我江之東。江上春風正桃李。須臾話別去匇匇。脚下青泥渾不洗。

> A single drop from Cao Stream's waters¹, Rising waves from level ground. The Wayfarer holds the art of cutting currents, Pulling the Heavenly River by such means. On incense-peak summit, a golden hook is cast; At the Resting Egret Pavilion, a red carp is caught. In the Celestial Palace, teaching, night dreams drift, idle— The four propositions and hundred negations all empty, wondrous truths. The first taboo—don’t touch it³, Three punches to the ribs—none can compare. Hiding the body in the Northern Dipper, arranged into five positions⁵, A blink of an eye, white clouds stretch for ten thousand miles. This morning, you visited me east of the River; On the River, spring breezes stir peach and plum blossoms. Soon, our talk ends—you leave in haste, Black mud beneath your feet left completely unwiped⁶.
