At that time, there was an elder named Wonderful Moon living in the great city of Kosambī. This elder possessed great wisdom, skillful methods, and many attendants—men, women, servants, and followers—all complete in their circle and endowed with wholesome roots. He nurtured a great, wholesome heart. Then, the elder Wonderful Moon went to see the World-Honored One. Upon arriving at the Buddha’s dwelling, he respectfully joined his palms, bowed his head at the Buddha’s feet, and circumambulated him hundreds of thousands of times. Then, he stepped aside and sat down in a quiet place. After sitting calmly, the elder Wonderful Moon addressed the Buddha: "World-Honored One! Today, I wish to ask the Thus-Come One, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Enlightened One. Right now, there are doubts in my mind. I only ask that the World-Honored One, with boundless great compassion, teach me the Dharma and dispel my confusion."
