### 迦葉剎竿

> Kashyapa's Staff

迦葉因阿難問云。世尊傳金襴袈裟外。別傳何物。葉喚云。阿難。難應諾。葉云。倒却門前剎竿著。

> Kashyapa, when asked by Ananda, said: "Apart from the World-Honored One transmitting the golden robe, what else was transmitted?" Kashyapa called out, "Ananda!" Ananda responded. Kashyapa said, "Knock down the flagpole in front of the gate!"

無門曰。若向者裏下得一轉語。親切便見靈山一會儼然未散。其或未然。毘婆尸佛早留心。直至而今不得妙。

> The gateless barrier says: If you can say a single word of true understanding here, you will see directly that the assembly at Vulture Peak is still present, never dispersed. If you cannot, then know that Vipashyin Buddha long ago paid attention to this matter—yet even until now, you have not grasped its wonder.

頌曰。

> The verse says:

問處何如答處親 幾人於此眼生筋兄呼弟應揚家醜 不屬陰陽別是春

> The question is posed, yet the answer draws near— How many people here see with weary eyes? The elder brother calls, the younger responds, exposing the family's shame— This belongs not to yin or yang, but to a spring beyond all seasons.
