### 禪箴

循規守矩。 無繩自縛。 縱橫無礙。 外道魔軍。 存心澄寂。默照邪禪。 恣意忘緣。 墮落深坑。 惺惺不昧。帶鎖擔枷。 思善思惡。 地獄天堂。 佛見法見。二銕圍山。 念起即覺。 弄精魂漢。 兀然習定。鬼家活計。 進則迷理。 退則乖宗。 不進不退。有氣死人。 且道如何履踐。 努力今生須了却。莫教永劫受餘殃。

> Following rules and keeping discipline— yet binding oneself with ropes that aren't there. Moving freely without hindrance— that's the army of heretics and demons. Keeping the mind calm and still— that's silent-illumination heretical Zen. Indulging in forgetfulness, letting go of all ties— and falling into a deep pit. Being alert and aware without dullness— but wearing chains and carrying cangues. Thinking of good, thinking of evil— hell and heaven. Views of Buddha, views of Dharma— two iron mountains encircling. When a thought arises, be aware of it immediately— yet that's just playing with the spirit. Sitting rigidly in fixed meditation— that's the livelihood of ghosts. Advancing, you lose the truth; retreating, you violate the tradition. Neither advancing nor retreating— a living corpse. So tell me, how should one truly walk this path? Strive hard this lifetime to settle it completely, lest you suffer the remaining consequences for eons to come.
