The Record of Temples in the Liang Capital is traditionally attributed to a monk or scholar from the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, with the author's identity lost to history. This document chronicles the establishment, development, architectural layouts, and religious activities of major Buddhist temples in Jiankang (present-day Nanjing), the capital of the Liang dynasty during the Southern Dynasties. It reflects the historical context of Buddhism's flourishing under Emperor Wu of Liang. The content covers temple economies, monastic community systems, and Buddhist rituals, serving as a vital historical source for the study of Chinese Han Buddhism, Southern Dynasties Buddhist art, and socio-cultural history. Although the original text has been lost, quotations in later works attest to its authoritative status in the study of medieval Buddhist temple history and regional religious culture.
