### 巴陵三句嗣雲門名顥鑒叢林目為鑒多口

> Baling's Three Statements

僧問巴陵。如何是提婆宗。陵云。銀盌裏盛雪。

> A monk asked Baling, "What is the school of Aryadeva?" Baling replied, "Snow piled in a silver bowl."

問如何是吹毛劍。陵云。珊瑚枝枝撐著月。問祖意教意是同是別。陵云。雞寒上機。鴨寒下水雲門聞此語云。他日老僧忌辰。只舉此三轉語。供養老僧足矣。

> "What is the sharp sword that cuts through all delusion?" Lingyun replied, "Coral branches hold up the moon." "Are the meaning of the patriarchs and the meaning of the teachings the same or different?" Lingyun replied, "When chickens are cold, they perch on the roost; when ducks are cold, they go into the water." <note>When Yunmen heard these words, he said, "On the anniversary of my death, just recite these three sayings as an offering to me, and that will be enough."</note>
