### 曹洞宗

> Caodong School

洞山和尚。諱良价。生會稽俞氏。禮五洩山默禪師披剃。得法雲巖曇晟禪師。初住筠州洞山。權開五位善接三根。大闡一音廣弘萬品。橫抽寶劍。剪諸見之稠林。妙叶弘通。截異端之穿鑿。晚得曹山耽章禪師。深明的旨。妙唱嘉猷。道合君臣。偏正回互。繇是洞上玄風播於天下。故諸方宗匠。咸共推尊之。曰曹洞宗。

> Master Dongshan, whose monastic name was Liangjie, was born into the Yu family in Kuaiji. He took monastic vows under Master Mo of Wuxie Mountain and received the Dharma transmission from Master Yunyan Tansheng. He first resided at Dongshan in Junzhou, where he skillfully established the Five Ranks to guide practitioners of all capacities. He widely expounded the single teaching, extending its reach to countless beings. Like drawing a precious sword, he cut through the dense forest of wrong views. With subtlety and profound understanding, he severed the specious arguments of heterodox paths. In his later years, he met Master Caoshan Danzhang, who deeply grasped the essential meaning and eloquently propagated the excellent teachings. Their way harmonized ruler and minister, interweaving the absolute and the relative. Thus, the profound style of the Dongshan lineage spread throughout the land. Therefore, masters from all directions jointly honored and revered them, calling it the Caodong School.
