### 功勳問答翠巖宗

> Merits and Virtues Dialogue

僧問翠巖。如何是轉功就位。巖云。撒手無依全體現。扁舟漁父宿蘆花。

> A monk asked Cuiyan, "What does it mean to turn one's efforts into their proper place?" Cuiyan replied, "Let go of all support, and the whole truth appears—like a lone boat where a fisherman rests among the reeds."

如何是轉位就功。巖云。半夜嶺頭風月靜。一聲高樹老猿啼。

> How is it to turn the position and accomplish the work? The rock said: In the deep night on the mountain ridge, wind and moonlight are still. From a tall tree, an old ape lets out one long cry.

如何是功位齊施。巖云。出門不踏來時路。滿目飛塵絕點埃。

> How is merit and position equally applied? Yan said: "When stepping out the door, do not tread the path you came by. A sky full of flying dust, not a speck of grime remains."

如何是功位俱隱。巖云。泥牛飲盡澄潭月。石馬加鞭不轉頭。

> How is it when merit and position are both concealed? The rock said: The clay ox drinks up the moon in the clear pond. The stone horse is whipped but does not turn its head.
