### 修十善業

> Cultivating the Ten Good Deeds

華嚴十地品云。十不善業道。是地獄畜生餓鬼受生因。十善業道。是人天乃至有頂處受生因。又上品十善智慧修習。心狹劣故。缺大悲故。從他聞聲而解了故。成聲聞乘。又上品十善修治清淨。不從他教。悟解甚深因緣法故。成獨覺乘。又上品十善修治清淨。心廣無量。具足悲憫。發生大願。不捨眾生。希求諸佛大智。故成菩薩廣大行。又此上上十善業道。一切種智清淨故。乃至證十力四無所畏故。一切佛法皆得成就。十善是一。發心智解有異。故不同耳。觀經修十善業。是圓頓行。乃出世間上上十善。感諸上善人俱會一處成佛之因也。

> The Avatamsaka Sutra's “Ten Grounds” chapter states: The ten unwholesome deeds are the causes of rebirth in hells, as animals, or as hungry ghosts. The ten wholesome deeds are the causes of rebirth in human or heavenly realms, even up to the highest heaven of existence. Furthermore, when one cultivates the superior ten wholesome deeds with wisdom, yet their mind remains narrow and limited, lacking great compassion, and because they understand only through hearing others teach, this leads to the Vehicle of Listeners (Śrāvakas). When one cultivates the superior ten wholesome deeds with pure practice, not relying on others' teachings, but awakening to the profound principle of dependent origination through their own insight, this leads to the Vehicle of Solitary Realizers (Pratyekabuddhas). When one cultivates the superior ten wholesome deeds with pure practice, with a mind vast and boundless, fully endowed with compassion and empathy, giving rise to great vows, never abandoning sentient beings, and seeking the great wisdom of all Buddhas, this leads to the extensive bodhisattva path. Moreover, when this supreme ten wholesome deeds practice is purified by the wisdom of omniscience, and one realizes the ten powers and four fearlessnesses, all Buddha-dharmas are accomplished. The ten wholesome deeds are one and the same. The difference lies in the mind, wisdom, and understanding of those who practice them. This is why there are different results. The Contemplation Sutra teaches that cultivating the ten wholesome deeds is a practice of perfect and sudden enlightenment. It is the supreme, world-transcending ten wholesome deeds—the cause that leads to gathering with all superior virtuous beings in one place and attaining Buddhahood.
