### 唐并州石壁寺明度傳

> Tang Bingzhou Stone Wall Temple Mingdu Biography

釋明度，未知何許人也。經論涉學，三業恪勤。誦《金剛般若》資為淨分，慈濟為心。迨貞觀末，有鴿巢于屋楹，乳養二雛。度每以餘粥就窠哺之，復呪之曰：「乘我經力，羽翼速成。」忽早學飛，墮地偕殞，度乃瘞之。旬餘，夢二小兒曰：「兒等本受卵生小類，蒙上人為養育，誦持迴向，今轉生人道，距此寺東十里間某家是也。」度默誌之，至十月滿，往訪此家，男婦果㝈生二子。入視之，數日，遂呼曰：「鴿兒」，一時迴頭應諾。歲餘能言，皆得成長。度未知終所。

> Monk Mingdu’s origins are unknown. He extensively studied sutras and commentaries, diligently cultivating his body, speech, and mind. Reciting the \*Diamond Sutra\* to purify his practice, he lived with compassion at his core. In the late Zhenguan era (around 649 CE), a pair of pigeons nested in the beams of his hall and raised two chicks. Mingdu would take leftover congee to feed them daily, chanting: “By the power of my sutra, may your wings grow swiftly.” The chicks attempted early flight, fell to the ground, and died. Mingdu buried them. Over ten days later, he dreamed of two children saying: “We were once born as lowly beings through eggs. Thanks to your nurturing and the merit of your chanting and dedication, we have now been reborn as humans, in a family ten \*li\* east of this temple.” Mingdu quietly noted this. At the full ten months, he visited the family and found the woman had given birth to twin sons. He entered to see them; after a few days, he called out: “Little pigeons!” and both babies turned and responded in recognition. By the time they could speak, they grew up healthy. Mingdu's final whereabouts remain unknown.
