- Master Jue'an held a gathering in his room, and a monk came forward asking, "What is the matter of the bright side?" The master replied, "It's the matter of the single color side." An held up a bamboo staff and asked, "What is this?" The monk answered, "A bamboo staff." An grabbed him and gave him a sound beating. Reflecting on this past event, I composed a verse. (覺菴和尚室中舉行脚明什麼邊事進云明一色邊事菴示竹篦云者個是什麼進云竹篦菴擒住痛打一頓因思前事為作一偈)
