The Buddha's Discourse on the Great Assembly of True Dharma, Volume One
Translated by Dharma Master Shi Hu, Imperial Commissioner of the Western Regions, Court Attendant, and Examiner of the Court of State Ceremonial,
Thus have I heard. At one time, the Buddha was dwelling on Vulture Peak Mountain in the city of Rajagriha, together with a great assembly of twelve thousand Bhikkhus. Among them were the Venerable Ajnatakaundinya, the Venerable Mahamaudgalyayana, the Venerable Shariputra, the Venerable Mahakasyapa, the Venerable Asvajit, the Venerable Rahula, the Venerable Subahu, the Venerable Bhadrapala, the Venerable Bhadrasri, the Venerable Chandrasri, the Venerable Mahasthamaprapta, the Venerable Purnamaitrayaniputra, the Venerable Subhuti, the Venerable Revata, and the Venerable Chandanavasa. All these were great Arhats.
At that time, there were great bodhisattvas present, whose names were: the Great Bodhisattva Maitreya, the Great Bodhisattva Puyong, the Great Bodhisattva Youthful Auspiciousness, the Great Bodhisattva Youthful Abiding, the Great Bodhisattva Youthful Virtue, the Great Bodhisattva Undiminished, the Great Bodhisattva Manjushri, the Great Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, the Great Bodhisattva Subhuti, the Great Bodhisattva Vajra Army, the Great Bodhisattva Medicine King Army, and others like them—a gathering of sixty-two thousand great bodhisattvas.
