### 佛說子命過經第十五

> The Buddha Speaks the Sutra on the Passing of the Son, Number Fifteen

聞如是：

> Thus have I heard:

一時佛遊舍衛祇樹給孤獨園。爾時舍衛城中，有一異人，息男命過。父母愛重，無不欲念視之無厭。以子之憂，狂亂失志，奔走門戶中庭街路求子，願來見我，當於何所得覩汝形？於時是人隨其門路，出舍衛城，至祇樹給孤獨園，往詣佛所，默然立前。

> At one time the Buddha was staying in the Jetavana Grove at Anathapindika's Park near the city of Shravasti. Now in the city of Shravasti there was a man whose son had died. The parents had loved him dearly, and could never gaze upon him enough. Overwhelmed by grief for their son, they lost their senses and ran wildly through doorways, courtyards, and streets, searching for him, wishing, "Come back and let me see you! Where can I find you and behold your face?" Then this man, following the roads, left the city of Shravasti and came to the Jetavana Grove at Anathapindika's Park, and approached the Buddha, standing silently before him.

佛問其人：「汝何以故本制其心，今者諸根變沒不常，憔悴羸極？」其人白佛言：「用為問我諸根變異。所以者何？獨有一子，舉家愛重，莫不敬愛，視之無厭。今以命過，以子之憂，而發狂癡。其心迷亂，開軒󰈧及門戶求索子，願來見我，何所求子？」

> The Buddha asked him, "Why is it that although you once had control over your mind, now your senses have become altered and lost their steadiness, and you are utterly haggard and exhausted?" The man replied to the Buddha, "Why ask me about my altered senses? Here is the reason: I had an only son, cherished by the whole household, loved and respected by all, never tiring of looking at him. Now he has passed away, and because of my grief over my son, I have gone mad. My mind is confused — I open the windows and doors, searching for my son. I wish he would come to me — what son am I searching for?"

佛言：「其人恩愛之著，別離則憂，啼泣悲哀，憂惱之患，合會有離，適有所愛，必致惱患。」

> The Buddha said: "People are deeply attached to those they love. When separation comes, they grieve, weep, and despair — this is the suffering of sorrow and distress. All who come together must eventually part. Whatever you hold dear will inevitably bring you suffering."

爾時其人，聞佛所語，心中忽然了世無常，三世如幻，即受佛戒，稽首而退。
