### No. 1176-B淨土全書序

> Preface to the Complete Collection of the Pure Land

安養國法王子之言曰。淨念相繼。得三摩地。即淨土心。不必淨土歟。曰勢至菩薩欲入於微塵內。轉根本法輪。識淨土成住有因也。曹溪大師之言曰。東方人求生西方。西方人求生何國。即求生不必往生歟。曰盧祖。慮人於一真界。起爾我諍端。明淨土跬步可到也。是故黃童白叟不論年。華屋蓽門不論地。動靜閒忙不論時。無人非念佛人。無地非念佛地。無時非念佛時。然則一切人是佛本來人。一切地是佛降生地。一切時是佛成道時。聲聲是佛聲。念念是佛念。龍舒居士於淨土三昧。倏然而起。歡喜合掌。而告我言。棲水善里。有大長者。現淨清身。與我某甲。分座說法。令諸眾生。同行佛行。同堅佛願。同證佛心。同生佛土。靈山老人為作證明。山僧不覺手舞足蹈。敬書是語於其簡端。

> The Dharma Prince of the Land of Peace said: "When pure thoughts continue without interruption, one attains Samadhi. This is the Pure Land mind—does that mean there is no need for a Pure Land?" The Bodhisattva Mahasthamaprapta replied: "I wish to enter the finest particles of dust and turn the fundamental Dharma wheel, understanding that the Pure Land's formation and abiding have their causes." Master Huineng of Caoxi said: "People of the East seek rebirth in the West. Where do people of the West seek rebirth?" Does this mean that seeking rebirth does not require actual arrival? The reply: The Patriarch Lu (Huineng) was concerned that people might create divisions of self and other within the realm of ultimate reality, so he made clear that the Pure Land can be reached in a single step. Therefore, whether young or old—age does not matter. Whether in grand mansions or humble cottages—place does not matter. Whether active or at rest, busy or idle—time does not matter. There is no person who is not a Buddha-reciting person. There is no place that is not a Buddha-reciting place. There is no time that is not a Buddha-reciting time. Thus, all people are originally Buddha. All places are where Buddha was born. All times are when Buddha attained enlightenment. Every sound is the sound of Buddha. Every thought is a thought of Buddha. The layman Longshu, within the Samadhi of the Pure Land, suddenly arose, joyfully pressed his palms together, and said to me: "In the good village near Qishui, there is a great elder who manifests a pure and clear body. Together with me, he shares the seat and expounds the Dharma, causing all beings to walk the Buddha's path together, to uphold the Buddha's vows together, to realize the Buddha's mind together, and to be born in the Buddha's land together. The Elder of Vulture Peak bears witness to this." I, this mountain monk, could not help but dance with joy. I respectfully write these words at the beginning of this text.

康熈甲辰初冬日靈隱弘禮題於直指堂中
