> Preface to the Re-print of Longshu's Pure Land Writings

> I once read the \*Pure Land Writings\* by Master Longshu and understood the depth of Venerable Wang's compassion. His work aims to universally liberate all beings, encompassing the Three Vehicles, yet its greatest merit lies in guiding those of intermediate and lesser capacities. Why is this so? Because enlightenment is inherently present, requiring neither cultivation nor realization. The moment one imposes deliberate thought, it falls into a secondary state. Yet not everyone possesses superior spiritual faculties. Without teachings on awakening faith and cultivating practice, accompanied by evidence of karmic responses in this life, few would find the conditions to sincerely aspire. Thus, the \*Pure Land Writings\* serve as a direct path to cultivation. If one earnestly accepts this teaching, regardless of spiritual capacity or depth of practice, both in this life and at life's end, one will attain realization. This work is truly indispensable. Some may doubt that reciting the Buddha's name ten times is insufficient to enter deep samadhi or that impure visualization might fail to benefit at the moment of death—unaware that the entire world arises from thought, manifesting as illusory existence. How much more so for those dedicated to Pure Land practice, who throughout life worship and focus their mind, yet cannot achieve rebirth according to their wish? Such a notion is utterly unfounded. Only those who directly penetrate the root and transcend all illusions have no need for this. But for all beginning practitioners, abandoning this teaching would be like a blind person without a cane—left wandering aimlessly. Thus I affirm that Venerable Wang's greatest contribution lies in guiding those of intermediate and lesser capacities, making this book essential everywhere.
